Online Stock Photography Agencies May Be Interested in Your Photos
0 Comments Published March 1st, 2012 in UncategorizedAnything you read is made more interesting by pictures, isn’t it? Photographs can give the reader the sense that they can actually see what they are reading about, which lends great appeal to travel articles. Unfortunately, travel photographer jobs are rare, but on the upside, you don’t have to be a full time photographer to get paid for your travel (or other) photos. Besides, with kids, parents and all our other obligations, it’s not easy to take on a job that requires travel anyway.
Traveling as a professional freelance photographer has always been an option for some, but now there is a low-risk alternative. Online stock photo agencies provide thousands of selections for buyers to choose from and are always looking to update their stock. The number of people who buy licenses to use pictures is much higher than ever since anyone who publishes online or off is a potential buyer.
It’s easy to get an overview of how stock photography sells. Just go online and do a search for “stock photography.” Many sites will be found, so check out any that sound appealing. You will find categories of photos and usually subcategories so you don’t have to browse through thousands of irrelevant shots. They don’t like to publish a bunch of nearly identical shots, but often many different shots can be cropped from one scene.
Most of the photos that are licensed are for use on the internet, so they will be very small, but the agencies want high quality so that large versions can be sold (for much better prices) so you will need to use a good camera and make sure to only submit technically appropriate shots. Rejection is assured if you don’t meet the criteria, so be sure to take the time to read up on what is required for submission before you send your photos in.
One more thing about licensing—you must make sure that the use of any recognizable people, private property or trademark symbols is authorized with a written release if they are a significant part of the image. Overall, just make sure your photo will not violate anyone’s rights.
